BIO
REIN is an internationally acclaimed artist, songwriter, and producer renowned for pushing the boundaries between the underground and the mainstream. While her early work was defined by a raw, explosive punk energy, she has since evolved into a more sophisticated sonic territory—masterfully blending 80s-inspired synths, electro sentiments, and darkwave atmospherics with polished pop sensibilities.
She shapes her avant-garde soundscapes through meticulous production, signature R&B-influenced vocals, and poetic lyrics. Since earning two P3 Guld nominations (Dance of the Year & Newcomer of the Year), REIN has received high praise from leading outlets such as CLASH, PAPER, Kaltblut, and i-D Magazine. Her sonic evolution has led to high-profile releases on Boys Noize Records —where her Transmutation EP hit the Beatport Top 10. REIN’s collaboration with Boys Noize also includes the 'Reincarnated Dub Mixes, Vol. 1'—tracks that have gained massive exposure as part of Boys Noize’s sets during the Nine Inch Nails tour 2025.
She has also collaborated with a wide range of electronic underground icons including DJ Carli, Owl Vision, The Hacker, Djedjotronic, Minuit Machine, and Pablo Bozzi. Most recently, in August 2025, REIN released a remix EP for "Power & Passion," featuring standout reinterpretations by legendary DJ/producer The Hacker and the innovative Wax Wings.
Her impact on the airwaves is equally significant. Tracks like "C.A.P.I.T.A.L.I.S.M." (Viral Top 50, Sweden) and "Missfit" have been staples on Swedish National Radio P3. Her cult classic "Freedoom" was hailed by GAFFA Magazine as “the most ingenious thing to happen to the music scene in years."
A formidable live act, REIN has toured extensively across the US and Europe, performing at major festivals like Roskilde, Sziget, Slottsfjell, Transmusicales, Wave Gotik Treffen, Amphi Festival, and Coldwaves. She has also toured as a special guest for legends Front 242, Frontline Assembly, and Nitzer Ebb.
Her impactful presence also led to her being the face of Volkswagen’s "Let's Get Electric" campaign with her cover of the iconic Leila K’s 90’s hit "Electric" (produced in collaboration with Joakim Åhlund & Tony Senghore), as well as collaborations with Dr. Martens in Sweden.
Press votes on God Is A Woman
“-"The art here should not go unnoticed, it deserves gallery walls."
"REIN is too talented to be stuck in a nostalgic genre. Together with the french DJ and producer Djedjotronic she writes better and better and creates forward-looking songs. The opening track "How's it gonna be?" is modern electronic pop, filled with hooks in the same class as with the best of Robyn and Madonna."
“Stockholm, Sweden is famous for consistently exporting some of pop’s most experimental artists, and its latest is a strong addition to the lineage. REIN, who in 2020 released her debut album REINCARNATED, is back with a follow-up that continues pushing forward her signature industrial, cyberpunk sound. God Is A Woman, out everywhere now, is relentless in its approach to dancefloor stompers with 10 tracks that reinforce REIN’s fascination with powerful women.”
“REIN urges to dance as there’s no tomorrow. The electropunk Rein from Bergshamra could have turned into one of the crowd. Instead, she continues to go her own way. On the sequel "God Is A Woman", she lets heavy beats meet crazy twisted synth dystopias.”
Dagens Nyheter 4/5 - Johanna Paulsson
”Joanna Reinikainen has found her own sound with the second album. “God Is A Woman” sometimes brings to mind Robyn's “Body Talk” (2010) and sometimes Kraftwerk's Electric café (1986), but still sounds like something completely new.”
Press votes on REINCARNATED
“The Swedish synthesizer artist REIN is rock hard, unpolished, obsessive, uncompromising, extreme. That is why I think she is one of today's Swedish artists who has the greatest chance of selling out sports halls with 15,000 spectators in the future. ”
Dagens Industri 4/5 - Jan Gradvall
“Swedish electro punk Rein has long been considered promising. When the debut album "Reincarnated" now finally comes, no one needs to be disappointed "
Dagens Nyheter 4/5 - Johanna Paulsson
“With elements of chopped techno, electroclash, crackling electropop, and references to modern sci-fi classics such as The Matrix and Ghost in the Shell, the album spans currents from decades of alternative electronic music. Most striking is how cool and contemporary she makes just about everything sound.”
Hymn 8/10 - Anton Lindskog
… “She also holds the flag high on the long-awaited debut album "Reincarnated", an album that fans have been asking for since the first EP was released four years ago. It is an album that both manages and renews. ”
